Mobile Phones in Modern SocietyMobile Phones in Modern Society
Mobile Phones are extremely useful, but sometimes they can also be an annoyance. Fonehouse and other mobile phone companies can provide anyone with a mobile phone and not everyone uses the device in the most social way. Some even become very annoying to the people around them. Naturally, you don’t want to be such an annoyance. But what are the most annoying things people do with their mobile phones? In what way are these situations annoying for other people? In what kind of situations do these annoyances appear? And what can you do to avoid annoying the people around you?
Phones During Dinners
Some people just can’t put their mobile phone aside, even at dinner. Whether it’s a home cooked meal or a dinner at a restaurant, the mobile phone will be at the table, within arm’s reach. The annoyance starts when the person in question looks at their phone every other minute. Of course, there are times that you just want or even need to keep track of your phone. An ill child at home, an important call that you’re expecting or some message that you’ll have to answer right away are all valid reasons for wanting to keep track on your phone. But these things will only happen sporadically. If they do happen, it can help to communicate your concern to your dinner partner. Because they understand you, they’ll be more inclined to forgive you for looking at a mobile phone a bit too often. Any other time, you can put your mobile device away for an hour or two and give your dinner partner your full attention.
Phones in Public Transport
Some people complain about people looking at their phone on the train or bus. And it’s true that many people check their messages or check the news when they’re on their way to work or someone else you need to be. As such, they are an annoyance to some other people that also make use of public transportation. They say that all these mobile phones close people off and make public transportation more impersonal. But why is looking at your smartphone any different from reading a book, staring out of the window or opening up a newspaper? And some people just don’t feel very social early in the morning or after a long day at work. But they’ll respond the same no matter what they are doing when you try to start up a conversation.
Phones in Busy Rooms
You’re concentrating on your work and a hard ringtone starts. And that’s not all: the owner of the phone starts a whole conversation with the person on the other side. It takes a while before the noise settles down and there goes your productive morning. So put your mobile device on vibrate and walk out of the room for the duration of the call. That way, your co-workers, fellow travellers and other people in the room can work, read or relax in peace. As a company, you can also create quiet rooms where no mobile phones or other hard noises are allowed.
